Dr. Olivia Hsu Friedman, along with co-authors Courtney A. Chau, Capriana Jiang, and Peter Lio, MD, published another ground-breaking article on topical steroid withdrawal (TSW). A significant portion of the paper delves into four case studies as a basis for explaining the framework behind traditional Chinese herbal medicine treatment of TSW. The article, “Therapeutic Frameworks for Topical Steroid Withdrawal Syndrome: Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine Approaches to Four Cases,” appeared in the January 6th issue of the Journal of Integrative Dermatology.
Publication of research and professional papers on TSW is important, as there is currently a lack of information to help dermatology professionals make a correct diagnosis and prescribe the right treatment.
In this article, Dr. Olivia also highlights the difference between a TCM diagnosis and a Western medicine diagnosis, and how each case of TSW may require a slightly different approach or present differently, due to a different pattern of symptoms.
